I needed to add a latch for two iron gates and I wanted them to be able to swing inward and outward. This latch was the perfect answer. They like a tight gap between the gate and post, but work flawlessly. The body and latch have slots to allow for vertical and horizontal adjustment. I even use one with the body rotated 90 degrees to allow for attachment to a low wall instead of a post. The latch engages well as the gate passes by, in either direction. A simple tug on the head diengages the latch to open the gate. This setup does not allow for any locking of the gate so you will need another method if you require locking action.
